Linda Dessau — Music Therapist

I am an MTA (a music therapist who has been accredited by the Canadian Association for Music Therapy), and I have been working in private practice since 1997. Clients, family members, staff and volunteers who have worked with me have commented on my warm, supportive approach to people with special needs, and how I create a safe and accepting environment in which my clients can bloom to their highest potential.

I enjoy giving back to the music therapy community, and have volunteered my time by serving on the executive of the Toronto Area Music Therapists and on the board of the Music Therapy Association of Ontario, by supervising music therapy interns and by speaking to students or other professionals who are interested in music therapy. I have presented at several national music therapy conferences, including a presentation in Edmonton in 2001 when I spoke about the importance of self-care for music therapists. In fact it was that experience that sparked my interest in coaching people in self-care.

I began my musical training when I was 6 years old. I have studied formally on piano, voice, guitar and percussion. I attended the Claude Watson Arts Program at Earl Haig Secondary School. I received an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in music from York University and a Bachelor of Music Therapy degree from Capilano College and the Open University of British Columbia.
