TODAY'S SELF-CARE PRACTICE: PRACTICE SAYING "NO, THANK YOU" Saying "no" – to certain foods, invitations, habits, and other things that lead us away from self-care - can be one of the hardest things to do. We worry what people will think of us, we worry we're being selfish and we worry about what we might be missing out on. Yet, when we can find the courage to say "no" to those things, we're automatically saying YES to self-care, strengthening our physical, emotional and spiritual health and improving our health and wellness. And those people we said "no" to? They benefit from us having more energy, less stress and more capacity for love. We can contribute much more to our relationships, work life and all of the other communities we're involved in once we've made sure our own self-care is taken of. For specific thoughts about saying "no" to requests for your time, see the article Take Back Your Time. For strategies on protecting your self-care even when others are tempting you to stray, see the article Protect Your Self-Care, When Others Tempt You To Stray. I also recommend the book "The Speed Trap" by Jospeh Bailey (see sidebar for a link to purchase the book at Amazon), a wonderfully simple collection of tips and stories about slowing down the speed of your life. Remember, it's all about practice - so keep trying, make mistakes and focus on the next healthy choice that you can make!
